The first world title fight on Matchroom Boxing USA’s first card streamed on DAZN also had the first world title change.
In just her eighth professional fight, Jessica McCaskill won the WBC women’s junior welterweight title with a unanimous decision win over Erica Farias (98-92, 97-93, 96-94). The loss snapped Farias’ second world title reign at just under five years
The fight was one of three world title fights on the boxing card that took place in Chicago’s Wintrust Arena with the card being headlined by a welterweight bout between Jessie Vargas and Thomas Dulorme.
Farias has been one of boxing’s most successful female fighters for the past several years. Farias held the WBC lightweight title from 2011 to 2014 and then won the WBC junior welterweight title at the end of 2014. Farias briefly moved up in weight to challenge Cecilia Braekhus for her undisputed welterweight titles, but was unsuccessful in capturing the titles when the two met in June 2017.
This was McCaskill’s first fight in 2018, 10 months since her last time out in the ring which is the longest break between fights in her career. McCaskill moved up in weight to compete at 140 pounds for the first time in her pro career after unsuccessfully challenging Katie Taylor for her WBA lightweight title last year. McCaskill joins Anahi Esther Sanchez (WBA), Ana Laura Esteche (IBF) and Amanda Serrano (WBO) as 140-pound world champions.
